 Fall Wedding Decorations & Invitations

When planning a wedding, you have a lot of things to think about – the dress, the bridesmaids’ dresses, jewelry, accessories, flowers, and yes, even wedding decorations.  The decorations that you choose for your fall wedding will help you set the tone for the entire day.  Remember, traditionally speaking fall weddings and wedding invitations feature warm colors and an earthy feel to them.

There are so many different options when it comes to choosing the decorations for your fall wedding that it may become hard to choose!  You could go with rich jewel tones or the more traditional fall colors including orange, brown, yellow, and red.  You could even take advantage of the season and include seasonal decorations such as pumpkins, gourds, acorns, and cornucopias.  You could even have a jack-o-lantern or two if your wedding happens to be around Halloween.

The favors that you choose for your fall wedding should always coordinate with your theme.  An excellent idea, and decorative touch to each table, is to include a beautiful local apple tied with a golden ribbon.  You could take it a step further and offer caramel apples or even a “DIY” kit to make them at home.  Some guests might enjoy receiving a nice bottle of maple syrup.  Your wedding favors could also be used as fall decorations for your guests – think about small pumpkins, ornamental corn, or even marzipan fruit. Remember, the wedding favors will always be a part of your wedding decorations.

The type of decorations you choose for your fall wedding will also depend on the type of wedding you are planning on.  Do you prefer a classic or modern wedding?  Or perhaps you prefer a more formal event?  Below you will find some wonderful suggestions for a beautiful fall wedding, no matter what type of event you wish to have.

If your style and tastes falls within the more classic range, you might want to go with the traditional fall wedding colors – yellow, red, orange, and brown.  You might want to try brown linens, orange napkins, brown (organic material) chargers, dark or pewter flatware, and ivory china.  Your wine glasses, and perhaps even salad bowls, could have an orange tint.  The centerpiece is something you can have a lot of fun with, even for a more traditional event.  You may want to consider tall willow branches mixed with fall flowers such as sunflowers, calla lilies, and dahlias.  The colors of your flowers should be orange, red, and yellow – or a combination of all three.  Small votive or tea light candles can add an ambience of romance to the reception.

If you prefer the more modern fall wedding, you might want to choose brown and yellow (or even brown and gold) for your color scheme.  These dramatic colors will allow you to really make a statement as a couple while adding a feel of elegance to the event.  With such a color scheme you may want to consider brown table linens and napkins, with bold yellow or gold chargers.  Because you are dealing with such bold colors, you will want to leave the decorative flatware, china, and glassware to a minimum.  Glassware and plates would look lovely with a yellow or gold tint.

Modern weddings are more about shape than they are about color.  Keeping this in mind, consider centerpieces with interesting shapes – like tall vases filled with a few calla lilies and a couple votive candles surrounding it.

For the formal fall wedding, you will want to consider regal colors, such as purple, eggplant, and gold.  Formal events are all about rich colors and rich textures.  For the table linens, think about damask, in a rich eggplant tone, with matching napkins.  The chargers could be gold and the china gold-rimmed.  Glassware will make a bold, but elegant statement if it has a purple tint it, but without overstating.  Throw in some gold or brass napkin rings to tie the look together.

For your centerpieces, go with the classics – dark roses or calla lilies.  A combination of low, lush centerpieces and tall, candlelit floral arrangements will do nicely for a traditional, formal fall wedding.
